Goodyear Ballpark Guide: Guardians and Reds Spring Training in Goodyear
Goodyear Ballpark opened in 2009 and anchors the southern end of the West Valley spring-training circuit. It is the spring home of two Midwest clubs: the Cleveland Guardians and the Cincinnati Reds. Goodyear draws a loyally regional crowd — Ohio transplants, Midwest retirees who have settled in the West Valley, and baseball fans who prefer a slightly quieter, less crowded alternative to the bigger-name draws in Glendale and Peoria.
The stadium
The main stadium seats about 10,000, with a large berm and grassy outfield area that is one of the more comfortable in the league. The design is modern but unpretentious — good sightlines from most seats, a shaded concourse on the first-base side, and an open feel that does not try too hard. The intimacy is the point: in a 10,000-seat ballpark, even a seat in the upper grandstand puts you closer to the action than most regular-season stadiums manage.
The practice facility is tucked behind the main stadium and includes multiple full practice diamonds. The Guardians and Reds work on separate sides of the campus, and morning access before full-squad workouts is among the more relaxed in the league — fewer out-of-town fans know to show up early here, which means more room near the rails.
Location and parking
Goodyear Ballpark is at 1933 S Ballpark Way, Goodyear, AZ 85338. Goodyear is the southernmost of the four main West Valley spring-training cities, about 20 minutes southwest of Camelback Ranch in Glendale and 30 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor. It is also well-positioned if you are staying near the I-10 corridor. Parking is on-site and free, with enough lots that even late arrivals usually find something reasonable.
Tickets
The Guardians and Reds are two of the easier spring-training tickets to get in the Cactus League — not because the games are not good, but because neither team draws the volume of traveling fans that the Dodgers, Padres, or Rangers do. You can often find reasonably priced tickets to Goodyear games within a week of the date. That accessibility is part of the appeal: Goodyear is one of the best places in the Cactus League to catch a game spontaneously without the full advance-planning overhead that the premium draws require.
Food and drink
The concessions at Goodyear lean toward classic ballpark food with a few Southwest touches. Lines are short. Goodyear itself has grown quickly in the past decade and now has a solid spread of restaurants and bars along Estrella Parkway and the Goodyear town center area — mostly newer suburban spots that do the post-game crowd well. The West Valley events guide has current listings for bars and restaurants in the area.
Tips for visiting Goodyear
- Tickets are easier to get here than at Glendale or Peoria — Goodyear rewards last-minute planners.
- Morning practice access is excellent — fewer people know to show up early, so you get more space near the fields.
- Pair with Camelback Ranch. The two stadiums are less than 20 minutes apart and make a natural same-day combination.
- Goodyear is genuinely fan-friendly — low-key atmosphere, short lines, and good sight-lines from everywhere in the park.
