Peoria Sports Complex Guide: Padres and Mariners Spring Training in Peoria
The Peoria Sports Complex has been one of the anchor venues of the Cactus League since 1994, and it remains one of the most fan-friendly spring-training destinations in Arizona. The complex hosts two clubs with devoted national followings: the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners. If you are based in the West Valley — or planning a trip around the northern suburbs — Peoria belongs near the top of your Cactus League itinerary.
The stadium and practice grounds
The main stadium seats roughly 12,500, with a grass berm beyond the outfield fence that is one of the largest and most comfortable in the league. The berm is shaded in the afternoons by the position of the sun, which is a meaningful advantage on warm March days. The covered grandstand provides shade along both baselines during midday games.
The practice facility adjoining the stadium is expansive. There are twelve full practice fields shared between the two clubs, and the layout makes it easy to watch multiple groups work simultaneously. Morning practices — especially the first few days of full-squad workouts in late February — draw fans who want the up-close access that disappears entirely once the regular season starts. Arrive an hour before workouts are scheduled to begin and walk the perimeter paths between fields.
Location and parking
The complex sits at 16101 N 83rd Ave, Peoria, AZ 85382, just south of Happy Valley Road. It is about 25 minutes from downtown Phoenix and 20 minutes from Glendale. Lake Pleasant Regional Park is a short drive northwest, which makes Peoria a natural base if you want to mix baseball with hiking or a day on the water. Parking on-site is free and plentiful, though lots near the main stadium fill an hour before game time on weekend dates. The overflow lots are a short walk and rarely feel far.
Tickets and schedule
The Padres and Mariners alternate as the home team throughout the spring-training schedule, which runs from mid-to-late February through the final weekend of March. San Diego draws well in Arizona given the proximity of Southern California fans who make the drive, so Padres home dates at Peoria tend to sell faster than Mariners dates — though neither is difficult to get into for most weekday games. Lawn seating is available and is the best-value ticket in spring training, especially for the berm at Peoria.

Food and drink at the park
The Peoria Sports Complex has improved its concession offerings steadily over the years. The current mix includes Sonoran hot dogs, carne asada options, fish tacos, and regional craft beer. The berm concessions move faster than the main-stand lines. Budget-conscious visitors will appreciate that outside food is generally permitted — check the current policy before you pack a cooler, as it has shifted year to year.
Peoria beyond the ballpark
Peoria has a solid spread of restaurants and breweries within a ten-minute drive of the complex. The Vistancia and Pleasant Valley corridors have newer dining and bar options that cater to the suburban crowd, and the Peoria waterfront area near Lake Pleasant has a different character — more outdoorsy, less chain-heavy. Mariners and Padres fans tend to scatter across the city's sports bars after games rather than congregating in one district, so checking current options in the West Valley guide before your visit will give you a more current picture than any static list.
Tips for visiting Peoria
- Morning practice is underrated. The Peoria layout makes it easy to watch both teams in the same morning session.
- Padres home dates fill faster than Mariners dates — book early for San Diego games.
- The berm is exceptional here — bigger and better-shaded than at most other West Valley parks.
- Pair Peoria with Surprise. The two stadiums are about 20 minutes apart, making a Peoria-morning-Surprise-afternoon doubleheader one of the best days in Cactus League baseball.
