Where to Stay for Cactus League Spring Training: West Valley Hotel Guide

ZonaHaps|June 9, 2026

Finding the right base for a Cactus League spring-training trip in the West Valley comes down to one variable: where are you spending most of your time? The four West Valley stadiums — Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Peoria Sports Complex, Surprise Stadium, and Goodyear Ballpark — are spread across a 35-mile arc, and your hotel location determines how much driving you do between them. Here is a practical breakdown of where to stay based on which stadiums matter most to your trip.

The Peoria-Glendale corridor: best all-around base

The stretch of hotels along 83rd to 91st Avenue between Bell Road and Happy Valley Road in Peoria and northern Glendale puts you within 25 minutes of all four West Valley stadiums. This is the sweet spot for a multi-stadium trip. Peoria Sports Complex is a 10-minute drive, Camelback Ranch is 25 minutes south, Surprise Stadium is 20 minutes north, and Goodyear Ballpark is 35 minutes southwest — manageable from any starting point.

This corridor has a solid supply of mid-range hotels and extended-stay options that fill more slowly than the Scottsdale strip. Booking 6 to 8 weeks ahead for peak March weekend dates is advisable; midweek availability is usually fine with shorter notice.

Near Camelback Ranch (Glendale): Dodgers and White Sox focus

If the Dodgers and White Sox are your primary reason for the trip, staying in western Glendale puts you closest to Camelback Ranch. The hotels near the 101 and Camelback Road interchange are convenient, and the Westgate area hotels near State Farm Stadium are the most visible option — they are priced at a premium on Cardinals game weekends but often have reasonable rates during the baseball months. The tradeoff is a longer drive to Peoria and Surprise.

Near Peoria Sports Complex: Padres and Mariners focus

The hotel concentration directly around the Peoria Sports Complex on 83rd Avenue is the most purpose-built option for Padres and Mariners fans. Several hotel properties cater specifically to the spring-training crowd here, and walkability to the stadium — something rare in the West Valley — is possible from the closest options. San Diego fans in particular book these early, and Padres home-game weeks sell out the nearest properties first.

Near Surprise Stadium: Rangers and Royals, quiet setting

Surprise has fewer hotel options than Glendale or Peoria but a growing supply along the 303 and Bell Road corridors. The upside is a quieter environment and lower rates than the Glendale and Peoria stadium zones. Rangers fans in particular have made Surprise one of the more tightly booked spring-training destinations in the West Valley, so booking early for Texas home dates is important. The proximity to Peoria (20 minutes) makes Surprise a practical base for the northern end of the circuit.

Near Goodyear Ballpark: Guardians and Reds, easiest availability

Goodyear draws the lightest spring-training hotel demand of the four West Valley cities, which means better availability and lower rates — even for weekend games. The hotel options along the I-10 and Estrella Parkway corridor are convenient to the ballpark and put you close to the freeway for the drives to other stadiums. For visitors combining a Goodyear game with Camelback Ranch, the two are only 20 minutes apart and share the same general part of the metro.

Booking timing

  • Peak March weekends (especially the last two weekends of March): book 8 to 12 weeks out
  • Regular March weekends: 4 to 6 weeks out is usually sufficient
  • February games and weekday March games: 2 to 3 weeks is generally fine
  • Dodgers and Padres home-game weekends: book earliest — these draw the most out-of-state visitors

Alternatives to the West Valley

Scottsdale and Tempe offer better hotel density and the East Valley stadium circuit, but they add 35 to 45 minutes to every West Valley stadium drive during traffic. For a trip centered on West Valley baseball, staying in the West Valley is the correct call. For a mixed trip that covers both circuits, a central Phoenix hotel near the I-17 or 101 splits the difference at the cost of a longer drive everywhere.
