Valley Bar and Scumbag Airlines Present JACOB EARY QUARTET PLAYS THE MUSIC OF ORNETTE COLEMAN Sunday, November 29th 7 - 9 PM in the Valley Bar Rose Room 21+ FREE! Ornette Coleman was a visionary saxophonist and a principal architect of the free jazz movement who radically altered the course of American music. His raw, blues-drenched playing abandoned traditional chord progressions to prioritize spontaneous melody and direct emotional expression above all else. By releasing watershed albums like The Shape Of Jazz To Come, he proved that a band could achieve true collective improvisation without restrictive harmonic rules, forever expanding the boundaries of the jazz canon. Jacob Eary is a drummer/composer/bandleader/educator based in Phoenix, AZ. Leader of the art collective Scumbag Airlines and drum set instructor at Arizona State University, Jacob works to curate music, performance and visual art using collaborative methods with talent from the Phoenix community and beyond. He has performed in the Phoenix music scene for over 15 years in the valley's most popular and prestigious venues, as we'll as throughout the Southwest and South America. Original works by Jacob can be found on Bandcamp and Youtube under the name Scumbag Airlines. Band members: Jacob Eary-Drums Sam Hickman-Saxophone Max Strong-Saxophone Thomas Menefee-Bass
