Things to Do in Goodyear AZ: A Local Guide

ZonaHaps|June 8, 2026

Goodyear sits at the southwestern edge of the Phoenix metro, and it is the newest and in some ways the most wide-open of the West Valley's four main cities. It has grown rapidly since the early 2000s, and the combination of Goodyear Ballpark, strong access to outdoor recreation in the Estrella Mountains, and a developing town-center district gives it more to offer than its often-overlooked reputation suggests.

Goodyear Ballpark and spring training

Goodyear Ballpark at 1933 S Ballpark Way is the city's marquee venue. From late February through March, it hosts the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds for Cactus League spring training. Goodyear is one of the more approachable spring-training venues in the league — tickets are generally easier to get than at the Dodgers and Padres parks, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the stadium's sightlines are excellent from essentially every seat. See the full Goodyear Ballpark guide for everything you need to plan a visit.

Estrella Mountain Regional Park

Estrella Mountain Regional Park is the outdoor draw that anchors the Goodyear experience. The park covers 19,000 acres of Sonoran Desert at the foot of the Estrella Mountains, with trails ranging from easy desert walks to technical mountain routes. The Rainbow Valley Trail and Pederson Trail system offers significant elevation and rewarding ridge views over the Valley to the north and the Sierra Estrella to the south. The park is genuinely remote-feeling despite being 20 minutes from central Goodyear — it sees far fewer visitors than the more famous parks near Scottsdale and Tempe.

Spring is the best time to visit. The desert wildflower bloom in February and March — poppies, lupine, brittle bush — coincides perfectly with the Cactus League season, and a morning hike in Estrella followed by an afternoon Goodyear Ballpark game is one of the best days in the West Valley.

Palm Valley and the town center

The Palm Valley area in northern Goodyear and the city's developing town center along Estrella Parkway have a growing concentration of restaurants, breweries, and casual dining spots. Goodyear is behind Glendale and Peoria in its independent food scene, but the gap has narrowed significantly in recent years. Post-game crowds from Goodyear Ballpark tend to scatter across the Estrella Parkway corridor, and the lower wait times and more relaxed atmosphere make it one of the easier post-game dining experiences in the league.

Getting there

Goodyear is the southernmost of the four main West Valley spring-training cities, accessible from I-10 west of Phoenix. It is about 30 minutes from Sky Harbor and 20 minutes from Camelback Ranch in Glendale — the proximity to Camelback Ranch makes a Goodyear-Glendale doubleheader one of the more practical options in the West Valley circuit. The 303 connects Goodyear to Peoria and Surprise for visitors doing the full northern arc.
