Anthem

A master-planned community at the Valley's northern gateway — a big community park, outlet shopping, and quick access to north-country trails.

About Anthem

Anthem is a master-planned community straddling Interstate 17 at the northern edge of the Phoenix metro, where the suburbs give way to open desert on the way toward the high country. Built largely in the early 2000s, it is a planned, family-oriented place organized around parks, schools, golf, and neighborhood amenities. Its location makes it a natural gateway for travelers heading north out of the Valley. The community feels newer and tidy, with the desert and distant mountains close at hand.

Anthem Community Park is the social heart of the area, a large park with a lake, sports fields, a popular splash playground, ramadas, and even a community railroad, drawing families year-round. The park hosts community events, holiday celebrations, and seasonal gatherings that give the planned community a real sense of place. It is the kind of amenity that defines daily life here and anchors the town's calendar. Weekends often center on the park.

Just off the freeway, the Outlets at Anthem make the area a shopping stop for both locals and travelers passing through, and the surrounding desert offers easy access to north-Valley trails and open space. The setting near the transition to higher country means cooler high-desert escapes like the Bradshaw Mountains and Black Canyon area are within reach. Between the park, the outlets, and the outdoors, Anthem balances suburban convenience with a gateway-to-adventure feel. Its position on I-17 makes it a handy base or pit stop.

Summers are hot, with triple-digit highs from June into September, though the slightly higher elevation takes a small edge off compared with central Phoenix. The best months run October through April, when the community park, outdoor events, and nearby trails are all comfortable. A good day here might combine a morning at Anthem Community Park, some outlet shopping, and an afternoon drive toward the cooler high country north of town. The park and the gateway location are the everyday draws.
