Sahuarita

A growing town south of Tucson — the Titan Missile Museum, the Pecan Festival, and a gateway toward Madera Canyon.

About Sahuarita

Sahuarita is a young, fast-growing town in the Santa Cruz Valley just south of Tucson and immediately north of Green Valley. Once centered on pecan farming and mining, it incorporated in 1994 and has since grown rapidly with master-planned neighborhoods like Rancho Sahuarita. Unlike its retirement-oriented neighbor, Sahuarita has a notably young, family-heavy population, with parks, schools, and community amenities to match. It blends agricultural and mining heritage with newer suburban growth.

The pecan industry remains a defining feature. The vast pecan orchards south of town are among the largest in the world, and Sahuarita celebrates that legacy with its annual Pecan Festival, a popular family event featuring pecan treats, vendors, and activities. The orchards' green rows against the desert are a signature local landscape.

Sahuarita's standout attraction is the Titan Missile Museum, located in the town and built around the only preserved Titan II intercontinental ballistic missile silo open to the public. Tours take visitors underground into the Cold War complex, a genuinely unique experience. The town also serves as a convenient gateway toward Madera Canyon and the Santa Rita Mountains to the southeast, putting world-class birding and hiking within reach. A lake and town center anchor community life and recreation.

The climate mirrors the Tucson area — warm and sunny, with fall through spring the most comfortable for the Pecan Festival, outdoor recreation, and day trips, and hot but bearable summers. A well-spent day might combine a Titan Missile Museum tour, a stop at the seasonal Pecan Festival or a pecan-products store, and an afternoon birding or hiking up Madera Canyon nearby.
