Desert Ridge

Desert Ridge is a large master-planned area in north Phoenix, developed largely from the late 1990s onward along the Loop 101 near Tatum Boulevard. It was built as a mixed-use community combining housing, resorts, retail, healthcare, and office space, and it quickly became one of the most prominent commercial centers on the north side. Wide boulevards, newer construction, and easy freeway access define its layout. It functions as both a residential neighborhood and a regional destination.

The Desert Ridge Marketplace is the social and commercial heart — a large open-air shopping and dining center with national retailers, restaurants, a movie theater, splash fountains, and frequent events. Just across the way, the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa is one of the Valley's major resorts, with golf at the adjacent Wildfire courses, pools, and a lazy river. The combination of resort, shopping, and dining makes the district lively year-round.

Healthcare and education give the area additional weight, anchored by the Mayo Clinic's Phoenix campus nearby and a cluster of medical and professional offices. Dining ranges from family chains to upscale resort restaurants, and the Marketplace's outdoor commons regularly hosts seasonal festivals, markets, and live music. Families come for the splash pads and theater; visitors come for the resort and the shopping.

Desert Ridge is comfortable to visit year-round, though spring and fall are ideal for the outdoor commons and golf, and the resort pools are a summer refuge. A full day can pack in a morning round or spa visit, an afternoon of shopping and a movie at the Marketplace, dinner at a resort or commons restaurant, and an evening event under the fountains.
