Chandler
The East Valley's tech-and-dining hub — a charming historic downtown square, a famous Ostrich Festival, and one of the metro's best restaurant scenes.
About Chandler
Chandler grew from a farm town founded by veterinarian Dr. A.J. Chandler into one of the Valley's tech centers, with major semiconductor and corporate campuses giving it a young, well-off population. That prosperity shows up in the dining: downtown Chandler and the surrounding corridors hold some of the best restaurants in the East Valley.
Historic Downtown Chandler is the walkable heart — a tree-shaded plaza (Dr. A.J. Chandler Park) ringed by the restored 1913 San Marcos resort, breweries, cafés, and boutiques, with a steady stream of festivals and a popular Saturday farmers market. The plaza's holiday Tumbleweed Tree is a beloved Arizona oddity.
Chandler's signature event is the Ostrich Festival, a nod to the area's early-1900s ostrich-ranching history; it's grown into one of the biggest community festivals in the state, with carnival rides, concerts, and ostrich encounters. The Chandler Center for the Arts and the nearby Veterans Oasis Park (with desert trails and a stocked fishing lake) round out the calendar.
It's an easy, polished East Valley day: brunch and shopping on the downtown plaza, a desert walk at Veterans Oasis, and a great dinner. The heat rules apply in summer, but the walkable, shaded downtown makes Chandler one of the more comfortable strolls in the metro.
